Scarlet Monastery Run
Information
The Scarlet Monastery, located in Tirisfal Glades at coordinates (82.6, 33.6), is a revamped dungeon in Mists of Pandaria (MoP). It consists of two 5-man wings: Scarlet Monastery (combining the former Graveyard and Cathedral) and Scarlet Halls (combining the former Library and Armory). This guide covers both wings, including boss strategies, trash mechanics, and tips for normal (level 30–33) and heroic (level 90) modes.
Overview
Location: Tirisfal Glades, northeast corner.
Level Range: Normal (27–33), Heroic (90).
Wings: Scarlet Monastery (3 bosses), Scarlet Halls (3 bosses).
Lore: The Scarlet Monastery is a stronghold of the Scarlet Crusade, fanatical zealots dedicated to eradicating the undead and anyone they deem tainted. In MoP, the dungeon is streamlined into two wings, with updated bosses and mechanics reflecting the Crusade’s ongoing conflict.
Scarlet Monastery Wing
This wing combines the former Graveyard and Cathedral areas, featuring three boss encounters: Thalnos the Soulrender, Brother Korloff, and High Inquisitor Whitemane with Commander Durand. The layout is linear, progressing through the Forlorn Cloister (Graveyard) to the Crusader’s Chapel (Cathedral).
General Tips
Trash Mobs: Expect Scarlet Crusaders (melee and casters) and undead in the Forlorn Cloister. Interrupt spellcasts like Heal from Scarlet Evangelists and avoid AoE abilities like Flamestrike from Scarlet Myrmidons.
Crowd Control: Use CC (e.g., stuns, polymorph) on dangerous mobs like Scarlet Purifiers, who cast Purifying Flames (high-damage AoE).
Heroic Mode: Enemies hit harder, and mechanics require faster reactions. Prioritize interrupts and focus on killing adds quickly.
Boss 1: Thalnos the Soulrender (Forlorn Cloister)
Background: A former priest turned undead, Thalnos uses necromantic magic to summon spirits and zombies.
Key Abilities:
Raise Fallen Crusader: Summons Scarlet Crusader adds that must be killed quickly to prevent overwhelming the group.
Summon Empowering Spirit: Thalnos summons a spirit that moves toward a Fallen Crusader’s corpse. If it reaches the corpse, it creates an Empowered Zombie (high health, massive damage).
Spirit Gale: AoE damage spell, interruptible.
Evict Soul: Targets a player, dealing damage over time and spawning a spirit that must be killed.
Strategy:
Tank: Pull Thalnos to a corner to control adds. Taunt and focus Fallen Crusaders immediately.
DPS: Prioritize killing Fallen Crusaders before they become Empowered Zombies. Interrupt Spirit Gale to reduce group damage.
Healer: Watch for Evict Soul DoT and heal through AoE damage. Be ready for burst healing if adds overwhelm.
Heroic Mode: Empowered Zombies are tougher, so focus on interrupting Summon Empowering Spirit and killing adds faster.
Loot: Notable items include Soulrender Greatcloak (cloak, DPS) and Signet of the Hidden Door (ring, caster).
Boss 2: Brother Korloff (Chapel Gardens)
Background: A monk trained by pandaren ambassadors, Korloff uses martial arts and fire-based abilities.
Key Abilities:
Blazing Fists: High-damage frontal attack; non-tanks should avoid standing in front.
Firestorm Kick: Spins, dealing AoE fire damage to nearby enemies.
Scorched Earth: Leaves a fire patch on the ground, dealing damage to anyone standing in it.
Rising Flame: At 50% health, Korloff gains a damage buff and increased attack speed.
Strategy:
Tank: Face Korloff away from the group to avoid Blazing Fists hitting others. Move him out of Scorched Earth patches.
DPS: Stay behind Korloff and spread out to minimize Firestorm Kick damage. Move out of Scorched Earth.
Healer: Be prepared for increased damage after Rising Flame at 50% health. Heal through Firestorm Kick AoE.
Heroic Mode: Scorched Earth patches last longer and deal more damage, so mobility is critical.
Loot: Includes Korloff’s Raiment (chest, leather) and Boots of the Crimson Path (boots, plate).
Boss 3: High Inquisitor Whitemane and Commander Durand (Crusader’s Chapel)
Background: Whitemane, a fearsome priestess, fights alongside Commander Durand. Their synergy makes this a two-phase fight.
Key Abilities:
Commander Durand:
Flash of Steel: Rapid melee attacks targeting random players.
Dashing Strike: Charges a player, dealing damage and knocking them back.
High Inquisitor Whitemane:
Power Word: Shield: Shields herself or Durand, absorbing damage.
Heal: Restores health to herself or Durand; interruptible.
Mass Resurrection: At 50% health, Whitemane knocks out the party and revives Durand (if defeated) and Fallen Crusaders.
Phase 2 (Mass Resurrection): Whitemane revives Durand and summons adds, then resumes fighting.
Strategy:
Tank: Hold Durand and pick up adds after Mass Resurrection. Keep Whitemane in range for interrupts.
DPS: Focus Durand first, as he’s melee-focused and easier to kill. Interrupt Whitemane’s Heal and burn her down after Durand dies. In Phase 2, kill adds quickly to avoid being overwhelmed.
Healer: Save cooldowns for Mass Resurrection, as the party takes heavy damage. Interrupt Heal if DPS miss it.
Heroic Mode: Adds from Mass Resurrection hit harder, and Whitemane’s Heal is more frequent, requiring precise interrupts.
Loot: Notable items include Whitemane’s Embroidered Chapeau (head, cloth) and Triune Signet (ring, tank).
Scarlet Halls Wing
This wing combines the former Library and Armory areas, featuring three boss encounters: Houndmaster Braun, Armsmaster Harlan, and Flameweaver Koegler. The layout progresses through training grounds and a library.
General Tips
Trash Mobs: Watch for Scarlet Mastiffs (melee dogs) and Scarlet Archers (ranged). Pick up Training Dummies to block archer arrow volleys. Avoid cannon fire from Scarlet Cannoneers.
Crowd Control: CC Scarlet Scholars (casters) to prevent Fireball barrages. Interrupt Heal from Scarlet Evangelists.
Heroic Mode: Arrow volleys and cannon fire deal significantly more damage, so use Training Dummies strategically.
Boss 1: Houndmaster Braun
Background: Braun commands war dogs and fights with ranged and melee attacks.
Key Abilities:
Piercing Throw: Targets a random player, dealing damage and causing a bleed DoT.
Call Dog: Summons Scarlet Mastiffs that attack the party.
Bloody Rage: At low health, Braun gains increased attack speed and damage.
Strategy:
Tank: Hold Braun and pick up Mastiffs. Move out of Piercing Throw if targeted.
DPS: Kill Mastiffs quickly to reduce group damage. Burn Braun before Bloody Rage overwhelms the tank.
Healer: Heal through Piercing Throw bleeds and prepare for Bloody Rage burst damage.
Heroic Mode: Mastiffs have more health, and Bloody Rage activates earlier, requiring faster DPS.
Loot: Includes Canine Commander’s Breastplate (chest, plate) and Braun’s Mace (weapon, mace).
Boss 2: Armsmaster Harlan
Background: A melee-focused warrior, Harlan uses whirlwind attacks to dominate the battlefield.
Key Abilities:
Blades of Light: A room-wide whirlwind that deals heavy damage over time.
Heroic Leap: Jumps to a random player, dealing AoE damage on landing.
Dragon’s Reach: Cleave attack; non-tanks should avoid standing in front.
Strategy:
Tank: Face Harlan away from the group to avoid Dragon’s Reach cleave. Move to a safe spot during Blades of Light.
DPS: Spread out to minimize Heroic Leap damage. Run to the edges of the room during Blades of Light to avoid whirlwind.
Healer: Be ready for heavy AoE damage during Blades of Light. Dispel any debuffs from Heroic Leap if applicable.
Heroic Mode: Blades of Light lasts longer and deals more damage, so mobility and healing cooldowns are crucial.
Loot: Includes Harlan’s Shoulderguards (shoulder, mail) and Scarlet Kris (weapon, dagger).
Boss 3: Flameweaver Koegler
Background: A fire mage who burns the Crusade’s records, Koegler uses arcane and fire magic.
Key Abilities:
Dragon’s Breath: Frontal cone fire attack; avoid standing in front.
Quickened Mind: Increases Koegler’s casting speed, making interrupts critical.
Book Burner: Summons burning books that deal AoE fire damage unless interrupted.
Greater Fireball: High-damage spell, interruptible.
Strategy:
Tank: Position Koegler to face away from the group to avoid Dragon’s Breath. Be ready to interrupt Greater Fireball.
DPS: Prioritize interrupting Book Burner and Greater Fireball. Spread out to avoid AoE from burning books.
Healer: Heal through incidental AoE damage and watch for Dragon’s Breath hitting unaware players.
Heroic Mode: Quickened Mind makes Koegler cast faster, requiring multiple interrupters. Burning books deal more damage if not interrupted.
Loot: Includes Koegler’s Ritual Knife (weapon, dagger) and Fireweaver’s Robe (chest, cloth).
