How to level Jewelcrafting in WoW MoP | 1-600 JC Guide
Published on 6/19/2025
Below is a detailed guide for leveling Jewelcrafting from 1 to 600 in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria (MoP) Classic. This guide provides an efficient and cost-effective path, using readily available materials and prioritizing recipes that grant skill points (orange or yellow). Jewelcrafting pairs well with Mining to gather ores and gems, but Auction House purchases are also viable. The Pandaria leveling range (500–600) involves a discovery system, so the guide accounts for this while focusing on affordable gems like Tiger Opal.

This guide will help you level Jewelcrafting from 1 to 600 in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Classic efficiently and affordably. Jewelcrafting pairs well with Mining to gather ores and gems, but you can also buy materials from the Auction House. Pandaria Jewelcrafting (500–600) uses a discovery system, so recipes unlocked may vary. Prioritize cutting Tiger Opal for cost efficiency in this range.
General Tips
Mining: If you have Mining, gather ores while questing to save gold. Check Mining Leveling Guide for routes.
Skill Colors: Orange recipes always give a skill point; yellow may; green rarely. Avoid gray recipes for leveling.
Prospecting: Prospect ores (e.g., Iron, Mithril, Thorium) to obtain gems, reducing costs. Prospect in stacks of 5.
Save Gems: For Pandaria (500–600), save 20–30 Tiger Opal (from prospecting Ghost Iron Ore) for the final push.
Tools: Purchase a Jeweler’s Kit and Simple Grinder from Jewelcrafting supply vendors (e.g., near trainers).
Goblin Racial: Goblins get +15 Jewelcrafting skill from Better Living Through Chemistry, making recipes stay orange longer.

525–575: Craft 50 x Glinting Tiger Opal (1 Tiger Opal) or other discovered Tiger Opal cuts (e.g., Resplendent, Deadly). Stop crafting a cut when it turns green if orange/yellow cuts are available. By 550, you should have 5–10 new cuts.
575–600: Craft 25 x Glinting Tiger Opal (1 Tiger Opal) or other orange/yellow Tiger Opal cuts. If you run out of Tiger Opal, use Sunstone or Lapis Lazuli cuts (in that order of cost).
Optional: Craft Serpent’s Heart (10 Sparkling Shard, 1 Spirit of Harmony) at 550 for personal use or profit. Sparkling Shards come from disenchanting crafted jewelry.
Notes:
Prospect Ghost Iron Ore (mined in Pandaria, e.g., Valley of the Four Winds) for Tiger Opal and other gems. Save 20–30 Tiger Opal for 525–600.
Check the Auction House for cheap Ghost Iron Ore or Tiger Opal. See Ghost Iron Ore Farming Guide.
If you hit a skill cap (e.g., 65) and haven’t discovered new cuts after ~15 crafts, craft jewelry (e.g., Tiger Opal Ring) to increase skill.
Additional Notes
Daily Quests: At 500, unlock Jewelcrafting dailies in Vale of Eternal Blossoms (e.g., from Mai the Jade Shaper). Rewards include Serpent’s Eye and at exalted reputation, you can purchase patterns for epic mounts such as Jeweled Onyx Panther.
Research: At 525, learn Research to discover new rare gem cuts daily (3 Jewels). This is essential for high-end gem sales.
Gold Savings: Buy ores on weekends when prices are lower. Sell crafted gems during raid days (e.g., Tuesdays/Wednesdays).
Professions Synergy: Combine with Enchanting to disenchant crafted rings/necklaces for materials.
Meta Gems: Discover Agile Primal Diamond or Burning Primal Diamond for raid gear. Requires Research and rare gems.
